A Practical Approach to Assessment for Learning for MFL Teachers
This course takes a “nuts & bolts” look at what Assessment for Learning really means and how MFL teachers can use it without adding more pressure to their day.
So many teachers come on the course confused by what AfL actually means. Often, they think it’s going to be loads of extra work, it’s going to eat into their teaching time and, quite frankly, most of us are just sick and tired of new initiatives anyway.
Help is at hand! Teachers leave this course with a massive sense of relief, reassured that AfL isn’t a burden after all. I’ll show you AfL strategies that will raise standards, save you time and win over inspectors... all in one!
I’ll share strategies that allow you to give meaningful feedback kids actually use. I’ll show you how to push kids with questioning techniques that get them into the “extension habit”. I’ll show you how to get learners self-assessing and peerassessing, not just because it’s the latest “hoop to jump through”, but in such a way that really gets kids thinking and improving their MFL skills.
These strategies work across the age and ability range, save you masses of time, actively improve your teaching and radically improve students’ learning.

Session 1
We’ll look at what inspectors want to see in AfL. I’ll provide you with reassuring references from Ofsted, Estyn, QCA, ACCAC, HMI and the AAIA, so you know exactly where you stand and exactly what we’re “supposed” to do. We’ll “cut straight to the chase” - this is what the DfES wants you to give them and this is how you do it. Step by step. |

You’ll get loads of pro forma, checklists and ideas to take back to your department. You’ll get easy to use, ready made resources to trial with your classes. You’ll get lots of practical ideas for AfL activities which we’ll try out on the day and I’ll show you powerful ways to boost performance in the productive skills examiners and inspectors are most concerned about.
Throughout the day I’ll keep backing up my strategies with “official references” so all the way along we’re secure that we’re giving inspectors what they want whilst boosting performance, improving our own teaching and the best bit is...it actually makes our jobs easier! Read what other teachers have said about the course and I look forward to seeing you soon.
