| "Girls Will Be Girls"
“Sugar and spice and all things nice….?”
Girls face an extraordinary challenge in our changing world:
• They are dealing with more sophisticated issues than ever before and are doing so with less adult contact and guidance than ever before
• One in four girls shows signs of depression
• Compared to males, twice as many females attempt suicide
• When asked about their role models, girls only list one third of those listed by boys
• Girls are five times less likely to receive attention from a teacher
• Girls from 12 to 15 have the worst nutrition of any age group in the country
• By age 13, 53% of girls are unhappy with their body, by 18 78% are unhappy with their body
This course will look at the issues facing girls – and those who teach them – in today’s world. It offers a comprehensive road map to increasing the understanding of girls and the challenges that they (and we) face by providing enlightened insight into the ages and stages of girlhood.
