How to be an Outstanding A level MFL Teacher 2 ‘The New Specifications’

‘Just when you thought you had A Level Language teaching under control, a group of professionals headed by the notorious ‘M’ from QCA arrive to blur the boundaries and
throw everything into confusion…’
With A-Level MFL teachers having learned (just!) to cope with the demands of Curriculum 2000, a wholly new exam structure and syllabuses are introduced for first teaching in
September 2008. This new course will take away the stress and strain of how to incorporate the new demands into a sixth form programme, navigate you smoothly through the transition period and give practical advice on how to deliver all the elements of traditional language teaching in the sixth form.

COURSE OUTLINE
9.30 - 10.00
Coffee, registration and introduction
10.00 - 10.30
Bored with your board?
The Consumer’s Guide to the best (and worst) of the new specs. Time for a change? This session will show you what’s on offer from the different Boards and help you analyse the good and not so good. Specimen material from all boards will be on hand.
10.30 - 11.00
  For Your Eyes Only
The Scheme of Work, the cornerstone of all A-Level teaching will be discussed in this session and how it might be adapted for 2008 and beyond. Exemplar material will be provided.
11.00 - 11.30
  Diamonds are Forever
The key elements of A-Level teaching will be covered in this largely practical session; listening & reading comprehensions, grammar, vocabulary – learn about Nicolas’, Emilio’s and Angela’s guides to achieving high grades!
11.30 - 11.45
Coffee
11.45 - 12.45
The World is Not Enough - New AS topic in 60 minutes
The old Assessment Objective 4 may be going but the topic-based approach to AS & A2 is retained. This session will present a radical approach to teaching through the topic + how to cope with the new demands of teaching literature
12.45 – 1.30
Lunch
1.30 - 2.15
The Living Daylights - Writing
Probably the hardest gap to bridge from GCSE. This session will show how to take the strain out of your students’ lives by suggesting an approach which will allow confidence to be gained from the outset.
2.15 - 3.00
Die Another Day – The Oral
This participatory session will demonstrate an approach to speaking that will entertain and educate your pupils for that most bizarre experience – the oral exam
3.00 - 3.15
  Plenary
