The issues of behaviour management and effective learning are inextricably linked. This programme addresses the two by taking a holistic approach to improving classroom performance.
In “Developing consistency in behaviour management” we examine practical tools that help teachers adopt a confident and pro-active approach to behaviour management. We look at how we actively teach and learn behaviour and how, as teachers, we can develop a more focussed learning climate in our own classrooms.
In “Developing learner independence and motivation” we examine strategies that encourage active learning. We look at lesson structure and its role in building student motivation and focus. We consider thinking skills and offer tactics that support and challenge all students, including the gifted and talented. We also analyse how effective teacher feedback can enhance student achievement and self-esteem.
In “Gender and Learning”, an optional course component, we examine a range of gender specific issues including: effective target setting, using challenges to build learner esteem and using questioning to develop reflection and resilience.
