Using film technology in schoolPrintEmail

A practical guide to producing videos

Many teachers are now realising that with cheap and easy to use digital cameras they can now make superb teaching resources that are bespoke and entertaining. Many teachers are:

• Filming experiments and performances so they can demonstrate them over and over again to pupils
• Filming groups of pupils at work to provide perfect exemplar material
• Helping individuals with their performance by using film as a motivating force
• Making departmental promotional videos
• Helping produce bespoke materials for their VLEs
•Making film clips that can say and do exactly what they want them to

The aims of this course are to:

• Give teachers the confidence to incorporate video production into their classroom activities, including adding music and text to a film
• Give hands-on experience of filming and editing and show past examples that teachers can use in the classroom
• Give some basic advice on the range of equipment currently available on the market
Please note that whilst a significant part of the course is learning how to edit film, a large part of the course is about learning film techniques from a BBC producer.
