Thriving and Surviving as a Cover Supervisor PrintEmail

Why attend this course?

Increasingly, schools are employing cover supervisors in order to address work-force reforms. As a consequence, increasing numbers of colleagues who have no formal training in classroom management, have responsibility for whole classes of pupils. This course focuses on providing practical advice for managing whole classes including those pupils who are reluctant learners. Colleagues attending this course will leave with a wealth of simple, tried and tested strategies to make their lessons more effective for pupils and less stressful for themselves.

The course will explain:

• The essential "do’s and dont’s" of effective classroom and behaviour management
• The crucial impact of voice and body language when managing poor pupil behaviour
• The most common behavioural problems that occur in classrooms and practical strategies for dealing with them
• The characteristics of highly effective lessons, in any subject
• The learnable strategies for more effective lessons
• OFSTED’s, parents’ and pupils’ views on effective lessons
• A variety of strategies for supporting both boys’ and girls’ learning in the classroom
• 10 teaching strategies that can be used in nearly every subject at any level. A must for any cover supervisors toolkit
