There is a demographic bulge in our profession. 50% of the current teaching work force will retire over the next 12/15 years. Most of these people occupy fairly senior positions. This will create a “black hole” at the top end of the profession which will suck people through into more senior positions at younger and younger ages. It’s already started to happen. Youngest ever person appointed to the Headship of a secondary school? – 29 years old – only been teaching for 4 years! This sort of rapid ascent to more senior positions at younger ages will increasingly become the norm in the coming years. If you want it, promotion is yours for the taking. So – take up the challenge; you CAN do it, go for promotion NOW!
