Teaching can be the most rewarding, yet also the most challenging of professions, particularly during times of uncertainty like the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, educators have been experiencing greater anxiety, stress, and exhaustion than ever before.
If we want our educators not just to survive but to thrive - both personally and professionally - schools must become places in which they are able to flourish and inspire.
During this course, staff are encouraged to prioritise their own mental health and wellbeing and to work on a variety of ways to develop their long-term resilience.
Richard Smith brings a unique perspective to the Dragonfly team as a former teacher who now works in talking therapy, helping people of all ages to understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing. He does this through a mix of private practice and school-based work. Over the course of delivering training to several thousand students, colleagues and parents during his years as a CEOP Ambassador, Richard has developed a presentation style that is authentic, and uses a blend of applied understanding and a highly practical approach.
Richard spent twenty five years working in a range of schools; Primary and Secondary, day and boarding, both in the UK and overseas. His experience of teaching young people, supporting and managing colleagues has provided him with a wide range of viewpoints upon which to draw. Richard is still very much an educator and applies his current experience to provide relevant insight into the impact that mental health and wellbeing can have on leaders, staff and students.
