Many teachers are becoming increasingly familiar with Barak Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction but as ever need time and space to think about how to adapt the ideas for their classrooms.

By attending this course, you will receive completely clear, down to earth guidance on what you should be doing to turn this theory into practice. You will be given all the templates and worked examples you need to get started on applying the principles to your classroom literally the next day.

Rosenshine arrived at these principles partly by observing Master teachers, so by attending this course, you can start to apply these principals and grow your own teaching skills too.

Session 1: A Deep Understanding of the 10 Principles

Reviewing learning and the most effective ways to do it

Overcoming limits to working memory when learning ‘new’ material

Exploring the importance of ‘small steps’

Session 2: Checking learning

The right questions to ask, the right place to ask them and the right amount of time to do them

The importance of mental models and what they really look like

The role of guided practice; the dos and don’ts

The main approaches to scaffolding – when and where to use them

The shift to true independence – not just the buzz word

Practice - the new ‘P’ word!

Putting it all together, so it becomes embedded
